Until quite recently self-publishing was an expensive undertaking and the opportunities for selling a self-published book were limited. Now thanks to print-on-demand (POD) technology and Internet marketing, self-publishing can be inexpensive and profitable. However, some widely advertised assisted/subsidy self-publishing programs are quite costly and may produce disappointing results. The self-published author of Swedish Blood, John Amiard (Oberteuffer) will describe his experience and offer practical guidance on successful, low-cost self-publishing and the creation of the author's own imprint. He will discuss the creation of print-ready text and covers using standard PC software. Owning the imprint means that the author's revenues include the publishing profits as well as the royalties for all print and ebooks. For those authors who may choose assisted/subsidy publishing, Oberteuffer will offer some useful cautions.

John Amiard Oberteuffer has been a physicist, technology-entrepreneur, and newsletter publisher. His work has always involved considerable writing, but Swedish Blood is his first novel. It draws on his experience working in Sweden and sailing in the Stockholm Archipelago. Impatient to see his work in print, Oberteuffer explored subsidy publishing with a major industry player. Disappointed with the results, he decided to create his own imprint, Edson Press. He found the process relatively easy and personally satisfying and is happy to share his experience with other writers. Oberteuffer lives near Boston with his wife and two cats and spends summers on Cape Cod.
